WIQD and IBM Quantum Announce the First Qiskit Fall Fest in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, October 20, 2026 – WIQD (We in Quantum Development), in collaboration with IBM Quantum, announces the first-ever Qiskit Fall Fest hackathon to be held in Amsterdam. This landmark educational event is designed for Master’s, PhD, and highly motivated Bachelor students with a background in quantum technology, physics, and computer science.

The event will take place on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 November 2026.

What will happen during the event?

For two days, participants will engage with hands-on real-world challenges using Qiskit, connect with experts, and collaborate with peers. This opportunity allows attendees to dive deep into the world of quantum computing and explore potential career paths in this rapidly emerging field. A foundational understanding of quantum software and information is highly recommended.

Programme highlights:

• Introductory session: The event will kick off with an introductory talk by an expert from IBM Quantum, covering the fundamentals of building and executing quantum circuits using Qiskit.
• Hackathon master class: Participants will take part in a master class focused on advanced topics such as quantum optimisation, error mitigation, and quantum information.
• Networking opportunities: The first day will conclude with a networking & drinks session.
• Hackathon and award ceremony: On day two, a hackathon will take place, culminating in an award ceremony recognising outstanding achievements.

The hackathon will focus on three topics: quantum optimisation, in which the teams will tackle a specific optimisation problem using a quantum algorithm of their choice; error mitigation, where participants will implement error mitigation techniques on a QPU using a standard algorithm; and the quantum walker algorithm, where teams will create quantum and classical walker algorithms on a given graph and compare the results.

The first day’s activities will be held at the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), Science Park 123, 1098 XG Amsterdam; drinks and the hackathon on the second day will be hosted by the House of Watts, James Wattstraat 73, 1097 DL Amsterdam.
