WIQD is partnering with Wikimedia to organize a Wikipedia editing session!
We are sure that you have googled what exactly a qubit is more than once (as we have), and you’ve probably come across some wonderful Wikipedia article, and then you’ve wondered, should I give back some day and write about my favourite researcher and their work?
Turns out that there is a lack of gender diversity in Wikipedia, both in terms of published biographies and the editors themselves. In WIQD we believe that representation is important to increase diversity in STEM, and who better than a bunch of WIQDs to help out with this?
We know that sometimes this step of starting to edit seems too scary, and that’s why we’ve asked Wikimedia to help us, so we can fill Wikipedia (Dutch/English/your favourite language) with our favourite scientists and their works, but also think that an editing event can be a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people and create more inclusive spaces were we care of each other.
The Wikimedia Foundation, is an American non-profit organisation whose goal is to support and encourage people worldwide to collect and develop educational content under a free license or for the public domain and distribute it effectively and globally.
If you are also interested in learning how to become an editor, or have experience and want to share it with a group of enthusiastic women in quantum development, we welcome you to join! Be sure to register timely for this event as we have a limited number of spots.
