The culture of quantum is being shaped now. Today’s choices become tomorrow’s structures. Together we can build a quantum ecosystem where talent from every background can thrive, contribute, and drive the breakthroughs of the future.
Quantum technologies are opening new possibilities across computing, communication, sensing, and enabling hardware, with potential applications spanning areas such as materials science, chemistry, healthcare, security, and industry.
As the field develops, realising its potential requires diverse perspectives and strong interdisciplinary collaboration that only a broad range of voices and experiences can offer.
Quantum technologies are at the heart of attention in the European and global context, increasing the need to attract and retain talent in the quantum revolution.
Be part of the developments in a promising field by supporting the WIQD Impact Fund.
Urgent issues requiring focus
Across science and technology, structural inequalities persist in physics, engineering, and quantum-related fields. Women and other groups remain significantly underrepresented, limiting the breadth of talent and perspectives entering and progressing within the quantum ecosystem.
Barriers can occur throughout the talent journey, from early education and recruitment to recognition, career progression, leadership, and long-term retention. These barriers affect people across gender identities, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, neurodiversity, disability, sexual orientation, and other dimensions of diversity.
Organisations that fail to reach, attract, develop, and retain talent from the widest possible pool risk making an already challenging workforce gap even harder to address. This “leaky pipeline” leads to significant talent loss.
Inclusive environments also matter beyond recruitment. Creating workplaces and professional communities where people can contribute, develop, and progress is essential to retaining expertise and building strong, collaborative teams. A greater diversity of experiences and perspectives can broaden the questions teams ask, challenge assumptions, and strengthen approaches to complex problems.
From awareness to action
WIQD works with organisations that share our ambition to build an inclusive, connected, and sustainable quantum ecosystem. Through partnerships and sponsorships, organisations can support concrete initiatives that strengthen inclusion, visibility, professional development, and retention of talent across the quantum field.
Support fuels initiatives such as:
- Community-building activities that foster belonging, connection, and peer support.
- Mentoring and networking initiatives connecting people across academia, industry, policy, and the wider quantum ecosystem.
- Educational workshops, masterclasses, and events focused on inclusive leadership, team dynamics, professional development, and career progression.
- Awareness and knowledge initiatives that increase understanding of structural barriers and encourage evidence-informed change.
- Events and ecosystem activities that create opportunities for talent to connect, learn, exchange experiences, and increase their visibility within the field.
WIQD currently connects a community of more than 3,400 members across Europe, with approximately 270 event attendances annually through our community events, workshops, and ecosystem activities.
Benefits of partnering with us
By partnering with WIQD, organisations can:
- Access emerging interdisciplinary quantum talent by connecting with a diverse and growing community across the European quantum and deep-tech ecosystem.
- Strengthen employer attractiveness by demonstrating a meaningful commitment to an inclusive environment where people from different backgrounds can contribute and thrive.
- Support responsible innovation by contributing to the development of a quantum ecosystem that considers diverse perspectives and societal impact as the field evolves.
- Demonstrate leadership in inclusive technology development by actively helping shape a more diverse, equitable, and sustainable quantum ecosystem.
