Inspiring Talks from the WIQD World: Margriet van der Heijden
We warmly invite you to join the monthly event “Inspiring Talks from the WIQD world”!
Every month, an inspiring female role model will talk about her journey: what did she do to get to the point where she is today? What obstacles has she encountered, what successes has she celebrated and what tips does she have for her audience?
In September, we will welcome Margriet van der Heijden. She is professor on science communication in physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology, and teaches at Amsterdam University College as well.
Van der Heijden has been trained in particle physics and conducted her PhD research at Cern in Geneva, but then drifted into science journalism. As contributing editor she wrote about mathematics, physics and astronomy at quality newspaper NRC for many years, and she also produced NRC’s children’s page about science. Currently she is a columnist for NRC’s science section.
Next to several non-fiction children’s books, Van der Heijden published a double biography about physicists Paul Ehrenfest and Tatiana Afanassjewa that was shortlisted for the Libris History Prize. In November her book Ongekend will be published, with brief portraits of female scientists that have previously been overlooked.
When you register for the event, you will receive a Zoom link via e-mail the week of the event. See you then!
