Design really is everywhere! | Visit to the Dutch Design Week
Last weekend, we organised a visit to the Dutch Design Week (DDW), which proved to be an eye-opening experience for all of us. The event showcased the impressive collaborations between scientists, designers, and artists. One of the standout exhibits for us was from the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute, where our very own OC member, Yuri, is making waves.
Making Quantum Science Accessible Through Design

What made the exhibits particularly inspiring was how they made complex quantum concepts not just understandable but also interactive. The power of design shone through in these displays, transforming abstract scientific ideas into something tangible that anyone could engage with. From quantum physics to cutting-edge tech, these projects showed us that design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about communicating and making science accessible to everyone.
For many of us, this was our first visit to DDW. We were pleasantly surprised by the sheer range of what design encompasses. One of our members perfectly captured the mood by saying, “Design is really everywhere!” It was a reminder that design touches every part of our lives—sometimes in ways we don’t even realize.

Exploring the Intersection of Technology and Society
Many exhibits delved deep into the intersection of technology and society, sparking meaningful conversations around the role of diversity, inclusion, and humanity in innovation. These reflections hit close to home, reminding us that people—in all their diversity—are at the core of what we do, both in the WIQD community and across the wider quantum ecosystem.

Looking Ahead
Our visit to DDW left us energized and full of new ideas on how we can continue to bridge the gap between science and society. We look forward to seeing how these new connections and insights will shape our future work.
If this sounds like fun, check out our upcoming events!
